“ Ain’t nobody kill you cousin. You gonna be alright you hear me. You’re gonna be okay, be strong.” As Eric tried to talk to Derrick, Tori was already on the phone with paramedics trying to get an ambulance.

“I was supposed to be playing ball in college.” Derrick said more to himself than Eric.

“You still gonna play college ball cousin. You gon’ be alright Derrick. Fight this shit man.” Derrick faded into unconsciousness just as the EMTs pulled up. They were able to revive him and get him into the ambulance. With Eric and Raymond’s cars closely behind, they were able to pull off and get en route to Helen Fuld Hospital about ten minutes away. Once they sped off, nearly the entire crowd at the park followed them. When they got to the hospital, Eric and his friends were stopped in the emergency room lobby and asked to sit in the waiting area. When they turned around and looked outside, there were at least fifty people outside the building waiting to hear what was going on. Eric slowly walked out to the crowd that was continuously growing and let everybody know what was taking place.

“They got Derrick in emergency surgery!! All we can do is sit tight, pray, and hope for the best. Thanks for the love everybody!!” Eric tried his best to project his voice so the crowd could hear him. He then walked back into the lobby with his people following him. About twenty minutes later, Loretta, Tyra, and Derrick’s parents, Dr. Peterson and Megan ran into the lobby.

“Eric, where is my baby? Is he ok, what’s going on?”

“Aunt Megan, slow down. They got him in emergency surgery, and we are waiting to hear from the doctor.”
